Description
4 and 5 St Swithin's Place are a pair of houses located at the rear of No. 18 London Street. They were built in the late 18th century and are constructed from limestone rubble with freestone dressings. The houses feature a steeply pitched double Roman tile mansard roof with truncated stacks at the coped party wall.
The exterior consists of two storeys and basements. No. 4, on the right, has a two-window range, while No. 5 has a single window range. Most windows and doors are blocked, except for a six-over-six pane sash window located on the first floor to the left of No. 4. The houses are currently unoccupied.
These buildings, once common in the city, are now rare examples that illustrate the blending of urban and vernacular architectural styles.
