Description
The balustraded wall, gate piers, and gates to King Edward's School were built around 1760, with alterations made around 1884 and a 20th-century addition. They are likely the work of Thomas Jelly, who also designed the main building. The structure is made of limestone ashlar and features wrought iron elements. It includes six rusticated piers and three sections of dwarf wall, which are adorned with four faced bulbous balusters and moulded coping. The balustraded wall is a 20th-century replacement for the original wrought iron railings. There are two wrought iron gates with spearhead designs. The piers at the main entrance have cornice caps and are topped with urns decorated with acanthus motifs and Vitruvian scrolls. Three of the other piers feature vases with foliate designs and pine cone finials, although one of the pine cones is missing.
