Description
34 Broad Street is a former house from the late 17th century that was altered in the 18th century, with a shop added in the early 19th century and further alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of painted limestone ashlar, and the roof is not visible, but there is a moulded stack on the left side.
The exterior features three storeys with a two-window front. It has a coped parapet and a broken coved cornice above the second floor. The second floor has a narrow cornice over a square window that has unusual glazing, and the eroded ashlar and random infills around this window suggest it was once a gable end with a label mould above a mullioned window. The cornice stops on the left side, where there are two six-over-six pane sash windows with roll-moulded edges on the first floor.
The 19th-century shopfront includes a cornice and fascia, with a half-glazed door to the left and two plate glass panes with a moulded sill to the shop window on the right. It is said that there are two light stone mullioned windows at the rear of the first and ground floors. The interiors have not been inspected.
