Description

Poplar Farmhouse is a house with origins dating back to the late 17th century, featuring a significant extension from the early 19th century. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the rest is constructed from rubble with freestone dressings. The building has a double range of mansard slate roofs with raised coped verges and stands two storeys high with an attic.

The facade includes three windows, with tripartite sash windows on either side of a central six-panel door that has an architrave and a flat hood supported by brackets. There is a plat band beneath the cornice and a parapet above. The central sash window is flanked by a pair of hipped dormers, each containing two four-pane casements.

To the left, a lower earlier gabled wing is visible, which features two three-light ovolo-moulded mullion casements on the first floor, one of which is blocked. At the rear, the main block has three-light flat mullion casements on the left side, with a sash window above and a six-pane casement below on the right. The center has a stair-lighting sash, and the ground floor is sheltered by a pantile and transparent corrugated plastic pentice supported by four Tuscan columns, which wraps around to the gable end lean-to. The earlier lower hipped wing has two storeys and two windows on the first floor, retaining two-light edge-moulded mullion casements, one of which is blocked, and a flight of stairs leading to a door on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
