Description

Slades Farm House is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with a refacing in the 18th century and an extension added to the rear around 1720. The original structure is timber framed and clad in galleted sandstone rubble, featuring brick dressings and tile hanging above, all under a half-hipped plain tiled roof. The rear extensions are made of red brick and have a stone-coped parapet that obscures a hipped, plain tiled roof.

The entrance front has two storeys with an off-set end stack to the right and rear stacks located in the centre and left of centre. There are four casement windows on the first floor and two windows below, including one three-light diamond-pane "cross" window. The ends have pentice extensions, with the left side being half tile hung and featuring a brick dentil band and an additional window. The main door is located to the right of centre and is set under a transom light, while there is a blocked door to the centre-left beneath a camber arch and brick dentils.

On the right-hand return front, there are two blocked windows on each floor under gauged heads, and an arched window is positioned to the left between the floors. The rear elevation is early 18th century, five bays wide and two storeys high, featuring original 12-pane glazing bar sash windows. There are plat bands over the ground floor and at the base of the parapet above the first floor, with gauged brick heads above the windows. The ground floor has double casement doors, and the central half-glazed panelled door is set under a transom light, framed by pilaster strips and a pedimented surround with dentil decoration and scroll brackets.

Inside, the framing is exposed in the walls and ceilings of the old range, and there is a fine 18th-century staircase in the rear range with carved tread ends.
