Description

No. 8 is a terrace house that has been converted into flats, dating from around 1775. The front is made of limestone ashlar, which is painted at the ground floor, while the rear features ashlar with rubble for the stack. The building has a double pile parapeted roof covered with Welsh slate, and there is a coped party wall to the left with two ashlar stacks topped with some early clay pots. Access to the staircase is at the rear.

The exterior consists of four storeys and a basement, with a single bay and three windows on the front. The first floor features a Venetian window with a combination of four/six and six/nine horned sash windows, along with fan glazing above the center window, all set in splayed reveals with a continuous stone sill. On the second floor, there are three grouped four/four, six/six, and four/four sashes in plain reveals, also with a continuous stone sill. The third floor has two six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills.

On the ground floor, to the left, there is a six/six horned sash in a splayed reveal with a stone sill, and to the right, a six-panel door featuring flush, fielded, and glazed panels within a stone doorcase. This doorcase has an ovolo moulded architrave with a flat surround, supported by heavy console brackets that hold up a projecting moulded cornice. There is one step leading to a pennant paved crossover with a cast iron footscraper. The basement has a six/six horned sash in a plain reveal with a splayed lintel, while the door under the crossover is not visible. Additional features include a band course above the ground floor, a coved eaves cornice, and a coped parapet. The rear elevation has plate glass and glazing bar horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
