Description
28 and 28A High Street is an attached house that has been converted into shops. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some early 20th-century alterations. The building is made of colourwashed limestone ashlar with ashlar copings, featuring a pantiled mansard roof and an ashlar stack on the north side.
The exterior is two stories high and has a three-window range. The west facade includes pilasters, a cornice, and a blind parapet. The ground floor features a mid-20th-century fully-glazed shop front with a central entrance and angled glazed doorways on either side, along with a plain fascia. On the first floor, there is a sash window to the left with an upper frame of six panes and a lower section that is missing a transverse glazing bar. The central window is a recessed blind window, and there is a 12-pane sash window to the right.
Inside, there are no surviving original room layouts or notable architectural features. The building forms a group with the adjacent No. 26 and the National Westminster Bank.
