Description

The Old Bank Public House is a former bank that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century.

The building features colourwashed render on its elevations, with brick and ashlar dressings at the ground floor, topped by an asbestos slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical façade with four windows. The front has end pilasters, a cornice, and a blind parapet. The ground floor was modified in the first half of the 20th century, now displaying five round-headed openings. The leftmost opening contains a late 20th-century door with a fanlight, while the others feature small-pane metal windows set above recessed brick panels. The three central windows have keystones, and the rightmost window was previously a doorway. The first floor has 20th-century metal unit sashes with external shutters, and some original sash glazing can still be seen on the rear elevation, including a round-arched stair-light with margin glazing.

Inside, there is no evidence of the original room layout or any notable architectural details. Historically, the building was identified as a bank on a 1930 Ordnance Survey map and was likely built as a coaching inn. It was formerly used as Westminster Bank and is part of a group with the adjacent Archway and Conservative Club, both of which are also listed at Grade II.
