Description
A group of five chest tombs is located at the southeast corner of the Parish Church of St. Nicholas. These tombs date from the mid to late 18th century and the early 19th century. They feature panelled sides with moulded cornices. The first tomb, from 1784, is by Charnbury and includes decorative pilasters and an entablature. The second tomb, from 1813, also by Charnbury, has reeded pilasters and plain panels. The third and fourth tombs have illegible panels. The fifth tomb, dating from the late 18th century, is octagonal and features engaged columns in the Spalato order with a fluted tall capping. This collection of chest tombs showcases a variety of classical and traditional designs and enhances the church's setting.
