Description
This description covers a group of three chest tombs located at the north-east corner of the Parish Church of St. Nicholas. These tombs date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are constructed from ashlar stone. They feature panelled sides and moulded cornices. The first tomb is plain with corner acroteria and a shaped top. The second tomb, dated 1826, is by Deering and has plain panels. The third tomb, dated 1827, is by Wade and also has plain panels. Together, these chest tombs represent a notable collection of classical and traditional local tomb designs, enhancing the church's setting.
