Description

This early 19th-century brewery, now offices, is located in Freshford. The building is constructed of ashlar with a slate roof hidden behind a moulded cornice. It has three storeys and a basement, with six bays and prominent end pilasters. Large, segmental-headed carriage entrances are located on the ground floor, and segmental-headed windows with architraves feature on the upper floors. A plain band runs above the ground floor, and a cill band is situated below the first floor. A tall ashlar chimney with a tapered, octagonal shaft and moulded cap is located to the rear of the building. Inside, a large barrel vault is present in the basement. To the north-east side of the brewery is an adjoining three-storey house featuring a single glazing bar sash window per floor, and a panelled door to the right. The entire building, particularly the chimney, is a significant landmark within the village.
