Description
A group of four chest tombs located to the south and southeast of the Parish Church of St. Peter, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed of ashlar and feature panelled sides with moulded cornices. The tombs are associated with the Lea family.
The first tomb, from 1823, has corner balusters, a decorative frieze, and inscribed panels. The second tomb is plain with inscribed panels that are illegible and features an entablature. The third tomb, dated 1817, is broad and includes corner balusters, a decorative frieze with swags, and inscribed panels that are also illegible. The fourth tomb has corner pilasters and plain panels that are illegible.
These chest tombs represent a notable collection of classical and traditional local tomb forms and enhance the setting of the church.
