Description

Twerton Villa is a detached villa, now used as offices, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and coursed squared limestone, topped with a slate roof. The building has a plain symmetrical design with a lean-to at the rear.

The exterior features two storeys and three windows, all of which are sash windows. The first-floor windows are twelve-pane, while the ground floor has tripartite windows arranged in a four:twelve:four-pane configuration. All windows have tooled sills, and the ground floor windows are adorned with square block cornices on console brackets. The entrance door is flush panelled and includes a transom light. Additional architectural details include a chamfered plinth, a frieze band, a cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet. The villa has lofty two-stage ashlar stacks at the coped gables.

On the left side of the building, there are twelve-pane sashes on the first floor and a smaller window below, along with a blocked opening and another stack. Inside, the ground floor windows retain their original shutters.

The villa is complemented by boundary walls that feature high walls with plain weathered coping extending from each end of the main front. These walls return at each end to a steeply swept drop to an ashlar dwarf wall, which is slightly set back and was formerly fitted with railings. There is a central opening leading to four sandstone steps. The design and details of Twerton Villa are very similar to those of the adjacent Albert Villa, indicating they were likely developed by the same builder.
