Description

Nos 27 and 27A on Broadwater Street East are likely from the mid-18th century, although they have been modified over time. The building is located at the corner of Forest Road and is adjacent to No 25 on the west. It has two storeys and a symmetrical south front made of painted brick. There are three sash windows, with the middle one being narrower. The upper windows feature gauged heads and glazing bars, while the lower side windows are set in wide projections under flat lead roofs, with glazing bars only in the upper sashes. The central door has six moulded, fielded panels and is flanked by three-quarter Tuscan columns that support an entablature and parapet. The roof is steep-pitched, tiled on the north side and slated on the south, with decorative tile cresting and gable chimneys. At the west end of the rear, there is a two-span lower wing with steep, tiled roofs and tall gable chimneys, which is rendered and painted. The rear features irregularly-placed sash windows with glazing bars, a single-storey lean-to extension at the east end, and a small two-storey flat-roofed section between the lean-to and the rear wing. Nos 19 to 27 (odd), along with the wall and gatepiers to No 27, form a group with No 2 Forest Road.
