Description

Old Armistice, located at 31 and the western part of 33 Hart Street, is an 18th-century building constructed of red brick. It features full-height corner pilasters, which are interrupted on the western side by a shop front. The building has a moulded, modillion wooden eaves cornice and an old tiled, hipped roof. It stands three storeys tall with five sash windows that have glazing bars and gauged, flat brick arches. The central entrance has a flat hood supported by consoles, an architrave, and a six-panelled door with a fanlight above. The western end has a mid-19th century shop front that has been altered and now includes a modern door and brick base. The entablature features a dentil cornice, architrave, and pilasters, all with glazing bars. The eastern side is adorned with contemporary iron railings topped with spearhead finials.

The eastern part of No 33 is a 16th-century timber-framed building, now covered in stucco, with an old tiled roof. It has two storeys and one sash window with glazing bars located above a carriageway arch. The entrance features heavy, six-panelled doors.

This group of buildings, including Nos 5 to 39 (odd), the Drinking Fountain, the Parish Church of St Mary, and the raised pavement at the east end of Hart Street, is associated with other nearby structures such as Nos 2 to 8 (even), Nos 14 to 36 (even), Adam House, and several others including gates and piers.
