Description
Forge House is a 18th century building located on the north side of Hart Street. It features a stucco facade with some exposed timber framing on the eastern side wall. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with old tiles, positioned slightly advanced from the roof of No 55. The building has two storeys and four bays. The ground floor includes a notable 19th century shop front with a wide, overhanging cornice. There is a two-storey canted bay window to the east and a carriageway arch at the eastern end. The first floor has two additional windows, all of which are sash windows, most featuring glazing bars.
Forge House is part of a group that includes Nos 5 to 39 (odd), the Drinking Fountain, the Parish Church of St Mary, and the raised pavement at the east end of Hart Street, along with Nos 2 to 8 (even) and Nos 14 to 36 (even), including Adam House and Nos 40, 44 (including gates and piers), 48, No 50, The Old School House, and the Rectory Garden Wall opposite.
