Description
The drinking fountain, built in 1885, is located on the north side of Hart Street. It was erected in memory of Greville Phillimore, a former Rector, and was originally situated at the junction of Hart Street and the Market Place. The fountain is designed in a Gothic style, featuring polished pink granite and limestone. It has a gabled roof adorned with crockets and pinnacles, and it is topped with a cross. There are plaques on each side of the fountain, and it includes drinking fountain bowls as well as dog bowls at the base, although one of the dog bowls has been filled in. This fountain is part of a group that includes Nos 5 to 39 (odd), the Parish Church of St Mary, and the raised pavement at the east end of Hart Street, as well as several other nearby properties.
