Description
24 Hart Street is a building from the 16th century and later, featuring timber framing that is plastered over. It has a small wooden bracketed cornice from the 18th century and a very large, steeply pitched roof covered with old tiles. The building has two storeys and a dormer. There are two modern windows and an additional small early 19th-century casement window, likely set in an earlier window space. The later 19th-century shop front includes a dentil cornice above and brass fittings, along with an 18th-century canted bay window that has sashes with glazing bars on the east side. There is also a carriageway entrance, both of which are under a bressumer.
This building is part of a group that includes numbers 2 to 8 (even), 14 to 36 (even), Adam House, numbers 40 and 44, as well as the gates and piers at 48 and 50, The Old School House, and the Rectory Garden Wall. It forms a cohesive group with numbers 5 to 39 (odd), the Drinking Fountain, the Parish Church of St Mary, and the raised pavement at the east end of Hart Street.
