Description
The Trustee Savings Bank, located at No. 23 Hart Street, features an early 19th-century facade that likely belongs to an earlier house. The building is constructed of stucco and includes quoins, a band at the first-floor sill height, and a parapet. It has an old tiled roof and stands two storeys tall with a gabled dormer. The first floor has two windows, including a canted oriel bay supported by brackets, which features a dentil cornice and vermiculated panels below. The ground floor has a three-light window, all of which are sashes with most of the glazing bars intact. The doorway on the western side is framed by plain pilasters and a cornice.
The building is part of a group that includes Nos 5 to 39 (odd), the Drinking Fountain, the Parish Church of St Mary, and the raised pavement at the east end of Hart Street, as well as Nos 2 to 8 (even), Nos 14 to 36 (even), Adam House, and Nos 40, 44 (including gates and piers), 48, No 50, The Old School House, and the Rectory Garden Wall opposite.
