Description

Lyoth Cottage is an early 17th-century, two-bay timber-framed house that was extended by one bay in the early 20th century and features 20th-century windows. The left two bays have exposed framing with a midrail and painted brick infill set on a part sandstone plinth, while the right bay is constructed of 19th-century brickwork. The cottage has an old tiled roof with end brick chimneystacks and stands two storeys tall with a total of seven windows, including four 20th-century metal-framed casements with leaded lights. The ground floor features a three-light oriel window on the right side, a 20th-century boarded door, and a gabled timber-framed and plastered weatherhood supported by two wooden piers. There is an outshut at the rear. Inside, the cottage includes an early 17th-century wide bressumer in the inglenook, along with spice cupboards. The former rear wall displays curved tension braces and an original diamond mullioned window at the first floor, as well as mortises for diamond mullions on the ground floor. Additional curved tension braces are present at the junction of the timber-framed section and the 20th-century extension.
