Description
The lychgate to the north of the church, dated 1893, was designed by C E Kempe, who lived at Lindfield. It is timber-framed and features a pagoda-shaped roof made of Horsham stone slabs, topped with an iron cross finial. The structure is supported by six square piers that create four arches, with spandrels adorned with a Tudor rose, other floral designs, and the motto "JHS." A frieze facing Church Street bears the text, "There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God." Inside, there is an inscription that reads, "To the glory of God and in thanksgiving for the beautiful life of Caroline Emily Maberley her children dedicate this lychgate, Anno Domini 1893." This lychgate is one of a pair in the churchyard, making it a notable rarity.
