Description
The Manor House is a large house designed by Nathaniel Tredgold in 1704. It stands three storeys tall and features seven windows. The building is constructed of red brick, which was once covered in cement. The central portion, which slightly projects forward, has three windows and is topped with a pediment. Long and short stuccoed quoins are present at the outer ends of this central section and the wings. There are stuccoed string courses above the ground and first floors, along with keystones above the windows. The eaves cornice is decorated with modillions, and the roof is hipped and covered with Horsham slabs. The lower halves of the ground and first floor windows are missing glazing bars. A 19th-century brick porch has been added, along with a large 19th-century extension to the north and a modern addition to the south. The house is accompanied by two contemporary stable buildings. The Manor House, the stables to the south, and Nos 24 to 31 (consecutive) form a group with Nos 1 to 7 (odd) Blackhorse Way, as well as all the listed buildings in South Street. All the listed buildings in The Causeway create a significant group with those in Market Square and South Street.
