Description

Horsham Museum, formerly known as Causeway House, is a 16th-century timber-framed house located on the east side of The Causeway. It features a plastered front with first and second floors that overhang on moulded bressumers and are supported by carved brackets. Above the second floor, there are two gables that also overhang, showcasing moulded bressumers, bargeboards, carved brackets, and pendants. The roof is tiled, originally using Horsham slabs, and the building stands three storeys high with two windows. In the 18th century, sash windows were inserted, retaining their glazing bars, and two small bay windows with five and three lights were added to the ground and first floors, respectively. Lunette windows were also inserted in the dormers. The entrance features a six-panel door with a moulded surround. A 19th-century addition added two storeys and two windows to the south side. The listed buildings in The Causeway are part of an important group that includes all the listed buildings in Market Square and South Street.
