1 And 1A, Pondtail Road

Nos 1 and 1A on Pondtail Road are former stables and outbuildings associated with "Chestnut Lodge," built around 1830. The building is two storeys high and features two windows on each part. The west part, No 1, is constructed of grey bricks with a red background and is rendered. It has a triangular pediment that is flat at the apex and topped with a weather-vane, along with a pendant and modillioned cornice. There are two round-headed upper windows flanking a left door, with an interrupted string course below the windows and another string course above the ground floor. The ground floor has a round-headed window and a round-headed door with a glazed semi-circular fan light.

Adjoining and set back to the west is a smaller bay with a triangular parapet, one blocked upper window, a string course, and a segmental-headed window on the ground floor. The east part, No 1A, is stuccoed and features a large pediment with dentilled cornices and a string course. There is a smaller bay to the left adjoining No 1, which also has a triangular parapet and a string course. All windows are sash with intact glazing bars, and there is a large segmental-headed door along with a small round-headed door in a modern wing to the right. Nos 1, 1A, the outbuilding, and the wall together form a group.
