Description

Chantry House is an early to mid-18th century building of two storeys and seven windows, situated on The Causeway. The building is constructed of red brick with a moulded eaves cornice and a hipped roof covered in Horsham slabs. The sash windows originally had glazing bars, though these are now missing. A six-panel moulded door is set within a frame topped by a pediment. A wrought-iron gate stands between brick piers, which are capped with spherical features. The building forms part of a significant group with the Manor House, the Stables to the south, and numbers 24 to 31 (consecutive) along The Causeway. It also connects with numbers 1 to 7 (odd) on Blackhorse Way, and all listed buildings in South Street. All the listed buildings on The Causeway together establish a particularly important group with those listed in Market Square as well as in South Street.
