Description

Penfold Cottage is a timber-framed building situated on Steyning High Street. It comprises a medieval hall house in the south wing and a 16th-17th century addition to the north. The north-west wall shows evidence of a bressumer beneath the plaster. The south-west front was refaced in the 18th century with flint and red brick dressings, including quoins, and features projecting eaves. The roof is hipped and covered with Horsham slabs. The cottage has sash windows with intact glazing bars. The arrangement is two bays on the ground floor, with two storeys and a dormer window on the first floor. Internally, the roof features crown posts.
