Description

This is a medieval timber-framed hall house of "Wealden" type, likely built between 1380 and 1450, comprising numbers 1, 3, and 5 Church Street, Steyning. The building has two storeys and three windows, with plaster infilling between the timber framing. It retains a Horsham slab roof. The central section is recessed and features curved braces; the first floors at each end oversail, with curved braces visible on number 5 and formerly on number 1 (now tile-hung and painted). Numbers 1 and 3 have sash windows with intact glazing bars, while number 5 has casement windows with small square panes. A painted brick addition, featuring one window bay, was added in the 18th century to the north-east end of number 5. The interior contains a crown post roof.
