Description

The Fountain Inn, along with the buildings adjoining it to the west, is a late 17th to early 18th century structure. It features a steeply pitched red tiled gabled roof with stacks at either end. The building has a cornice adorned with modillions and egg and dart moulding. It is two storeys high with three window bays and a stuccoed front. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with flush boxes and square heads, along with one blocked window; the glazing bars remain intact. A larger sash window is located on the ground floor at the northern end. The southern end has a central doorway and a large modern canted three-sided bay that contains three sash windows and has a parapet.

Immediately to the west of the Inn is a two-storey 18th century block that was formerly used as stables. This block has a much lower frontage and features a hipped tiled roof and a stuccoed front with two sash windows that have flush boxes and square heads. The ground floor ceiling exposes two beams. Further west, there is another 18th century block that is also two storeys high with three windows. It has a red tiled roof and is constructed of red brick, featuring a projecting chimney at the east end of the wall. This block has three sash windows with flush boxes and square heads, but without glazing bars, and it includes relieving arches over the ground floor window and door.
