Description
The Fleece Inn occupies three properties on East Street, originally comprising Nos 58, 59, and 60, with a large yard behind. The front of the building dates to the 18th century, but it incorporates a timber-framed core, with remnants of the original timber-framed wall still visible behind the modern façade. The building is three storeys high. Nos 58 and 60 have painted brickwork, while No 60 is stuccoed. A cornice and parapet tops the building, featuring a large pediment above Venetian windows on the first floor of Nos 58 and 60. Above the Venetian windows, a semi-circular window is visible at the eastern end, and in No 60, a window with a segmental head which has been altered. A single sash window is present on the first floor of No 58, and No 59 features a bow window on the second floor with three small windows in the centre. The front of No 58 is a modern public house, but retains a doorway with Doric columns and a pediment. No 59 has a mid-19th century shop front with two tall, square bays of five lights each. The doorway has a moulded frame and a panelled door with the top four panels cut away and glazed. No 60 has a modern shop front.
Nos 57 to 61 (consec) and No 61A form a group.
