Description

This is an unusual 19th-century classical building located on East Street. It is constructed of red brick with terra cotta ornamentation, rising to four storeys. The building features a parapet topped by a cornice with modillions and a foliated band below. Pilasters are positioned at either end, with alternating bands of brick and narrow terra cotta, along with foliated capitals and patera above. A large circular terra cotta medallion depicting the head of Mercury is centrally located on the second floor. The windows are sash windows, set in reveals within segmental arches, each finished with flat foliated terra cotta voussoirs and keystones. The first floor features shallow square bays with six lights. A 20th-century plate glass shop front and fascia are present on the ground floor.
