Description
The Railway Arms Public House, located at No 64 Basin Road, is an early 19th-century building that stands two storeys high with a basement. It features a tiled roof with a hip at the northern end and small brick stacks. The exterior is constructed of red brick with alternating grey headers, and it has a red brick dentilled eaves cornice.
The Railway Arms has two windows on each floor, while Nos 66 and 68 each have one window above and below. The windows are sash style with flush boxes; the upper windows are set in flat arches, and the lower windows have slightly segmental headings. All glazing bars are intact except for the lower part of the ground floor windows of No 64. The doors of Nos 66, 68, and 64 (on the north side) feature six flush panels with flat hoods supported by plain wooden brackets, with either the top two or middle two panels cut away and glazed.
The Railway Arms has a modern brick porch with a tiled gabled roof, and the door includes two moulded panels in the lower part, with the upper part cut away and glazed. The north front of No 64 is made of flint with brick quoins and lacing courses. Nos 64 to 70 (even) form a group.
