Description

39, 39A and 40 Southgate are a pair of houses dating from the late 18th century. They are three storeys high and have slate roofs, with the northern end of number 39 featuring a hip. The building stands on a slightly higher frontage than number 38, but is set back a few feet. A small brick dentilled eaves cornice runs along the top. The facade is constructed of red brick with alternating grey brick headers. The upper floors have small sash windows with flush boxes; some glazing bars are missing from these. The first floor features larger sash windows, also with flush boxes and rubbed brick voussoirs, but without glazing bars. Modern shop fronts are present on the ground floor. Numbers 36 to 42 form a group.
