Description
39-41 South Street is an 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall, although its frontage is lower than that of the adjacent Nos 37-38. It features a red tiled gable roof with a central chimney stack and has four window bays. The facade is adorned with a small brick dentilled cornice below the eaves and is constructed of red brick with alternating grey headers. The two windows on the northern side are spaced more widely apart. The building has sash windows set in reveals with square heads, and all the glazing bars remain intact. The brickwork includes painted voussoirs. No 39 features a small 19th-century three-sided canted oriel shop window, while Nos 40 and 41 have modern shop windows with large areas divided by glazing bars.
