Description

This is an early 19th century terrace of cottages located on Maltravers Street. The south-facing elevation is stuccoed, while the rest of the building is constructed from nodular flint with red brick dressings. The roofs are slate, with Nos 74-80 having a hipped roof and Nos 80-84 having a pitched, steeper roof. Late 19th century brick chimneys are present, featuring decorative cornicing.

The south elevation is two storeys high with a basement. A stucco string course runs above the ground floor, and a stucco cornice is located at the eaves, topped with a parapet. Pilasters are positioned between each house and at the ends of the terrace. Each house has a single window bay with double-hung sash windows, featuring glazing bars in moulded stucco surrounds. However, No 82 has a modern plate glass window on the ground floor, lacking any moulded surrounds. Each house originally had a single door, with Nos 78, 80, and 84 retaining their original four-panel doors with simple moulding; the remaining doors are modern replacements. An area with basement doors is situated at the front, protected by late 19th century iron railings with ogival finials.

The rear elevation is three storeys high and features a brick modillion eaves cornice. It has a single range of segment-headed double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, although the ground floor of No 78 has a modern plate glass window and the ground and first floors of No 74 have a continuous modern window strip. Each house has a single planked door, with No 78 being a modern replacement.

The cottages of Nos 64 to 84 form a group with the adjacent wall on the south side.
