Description

17 Waterloo Square is a building constructed around 1815-1820 by W K arts Daniel Wonham. It is similar to the adjacent houses at Nos 7 and 9 but remains intact without later alterations. The building, which may have been completed as late as 1840, is notable for its quality from that period. It stands three storeys high with three windows and is finished in stucco. The eaves feature a modillion cornice. On the first floor, there is a curved iron balcony supported by three slender iron columns and two pilasters, with a hood above that is held up by trellised columns. Behind the balcony is a large, slightly curved French window, which retains its glazing bars, although some glazing bars are missing from other windows. The building also has a small porch with slender columns and a curved pediment. Nos 7 to 17 (odd) form a cohesive group.
