Description

No. 9, The Steyne is a house dating to around 1820. It is three storeys high with a basement and has two windows. The front is stuccoed, with the ground floor rusticated. A cornice and parapet top the facade. A curved three-light bay window extends across all floors. An iron balcony with a hood is located on the first floor, and the original glazing bars are intact. A recessed porch features fluted Doric columns and a flat entablature. Within the porch are two doorways, each with a rectangular fanlight above a six-panel moulded door. The roof is covered with slate in two spans. No. 9 forms part of a group with Nos. 11 to 17 (odd), 19 to 27 (odd), and Steyne Hall, which appear as an uninterrupted sequence along the street.
