Description

The American Military Chapel, built in 1925, is possibly designed by Egerton Swartwhent and showcases a Greek Revival style. The chapel is approximately 25 feet square with a centralized plan. It features a portico supported by four fluted Doric columns, accessed by a flight of five steps at the front. An inscription on the frieze reads: "Perpetual light upon them shines." The central block rises behind the portico, adorned with a decorative band of ribbons and garlands, a geometric pattern frieze above, and a pyramidal roof. Behind the portico, there are eight-panel paired bronze doors set in architrave surrounds, topped by a bronze eagle in the transom light. The return fronts include two half Doric columns with a scroll frieze and stained glass windows positioned between them.

Inside, the chapel features a handkerchief vault supported by marble columns at the corners, with two Doric columns on each side. The walls display bronze rolls of honour, and there is a mosaic behind the altar.
