Description

The Tomb of Elaine Maynard Falkiner, nee Farmer, is a memorial statue located in Brookwood Cemetery. It commemorates Elaine, Lady Falkiner, who lived from 1871 to 1900. The statue is made of Carrara marble and was created by an unknown mason. It features a near-life size, barefooted figure dressed in a Grecian gown with appropriately styled hair. This memorial sculpture is noted for its vivid portrayal of Lady Falkiner's elegance. Born in South Africa, she passed away due to an illness contracted while managing a military hospital during the Boer War. The statue is listed for its artistic quality and the human interest it represents.
