Description
Milford Lodge in Witley Park is a lodge built in 1896 by H. Paxton-Watson for financier Whitaker Wright. It is designed in a Free Tudor style and constructed from snecked sandstone with ashlar dressings below. The building features restored 20th-century plain tiled roofs and a copper dome on a turret. The irregular plan includes two storeys, with a panelled stone stack on the right and a taller range on the left that is set back, featuring end and centre gables with apex crosses. Each gable has a keystoned panel beneath moulded eaves.
The front has a two-light leaded casement window under the eaves, above a diamond-shaped panel. There is a large arched moulded surround leading to arched and panelled double doors, which are partly glazed at the top, with a flanking arched door under a decorative parapet to the left. An angle tower on the right intersects with a projecting gabled range, featuring three stone, two-light, mullioned casements at the top of the tower, with a dome above. A part-glazed door is set under a depressed arch with a flat stone hood. The ends of the gabled wing have canted walls, each with one three-light leaded casement window on both floors, and a single light window in the canted walls on the ground floor.
