Description
The Bathing Pavilion on Stable Lake in Witley Park was built in 1897 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is constructed from snecked sandstone with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a hipped plain-tiled roof. The building has a half-H shape plan, with wings extending into the lake. It is a single-storey structure built over a basement that projects into the lake. The return fronts feature lunette windows, and the gable ends of the projecting wings have roundels. A colonnade of five Doric columns spans the central recess, with balusters in between. Curved flanking walls lead up to steps that descend to the lower lake. There is a wicket gate on the left side of the basement's return front, and the bank-side elevation includes two doors and one semi-circular stone-edged window.
