Description
Coneyhurst-on-the-Hill is a house built in 1886 by Phillip Webb. The building features red brick on the lower level, tile hanging above, and painted weatherboard in the gables, topped with plain tiled roofs. It has a compact plan and stands two storeys high with attics in the gables, featuring multiple offset stacks on the sides.
The entrance front showcases a central gable with glazing bar sash windows. There are two windows in the attic and one each on the first and ground floors, the latter having segmental heads. To the left of the central gable, there is a first-floor casement window above a door with a transom light, and a small window on the ground floor to the right. A further range is set back to the right of the central gable, featuring a hip-roofed break over the first floor with three windows, and a projecting pentice-roofed ground floor with leaded windows and a door at the right end.
On the left return front, the gable projects slightly with angled corners, featuring two cambered-head glazing bar sash windows on each floor, along with additional windows in the angled faces of the corners. The rear of the house has a tall gabled bay at the center with two attic sash windows and a tiled vertical canopy under the gable, which covers two first-floor glazing bar sash windows and two 15-pane cambered-head sash windows below, with further windows on each floor in the angled faces of the corners.
Inside, the interior is generally simple, with some plain fireplace surrounds and a square open well staircase that has a gallery or landing on the fourth wall.
