Description

This is a two-story and attic building on Castle Street, likely dating to the 18th century although with a modern facade designed to replicate that period’s style. It occupies the site of two earlier houses. The building is constructed of brick and features an elaborate molded wood cornice and an old tile roof. Two large hipped dormers light the attic space. There are four windows on the first floor, framed with architraves. The ground floor has three windows and a four-fielded-panelled door situated in an arched opening. This opening has panelled reveals, a radiating fanlight above the door, a delicate architrave, a key block at the head, and a doorcase consisting of Ionic pilasters, fluted decoration, a broken dentilled and modillion cornice, and an open pediment. The building is part of a group of listed buildings along the east side of Castle Street.
