Description

Sand Cottage is a hall house dating from the 16th century, with substantial restoration work carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries. The left side of the ground floor is built on a base of sandstone rubble, covered by a tiled pentice drip course. The ground floor to the right is of whitewashed brick, while the upper part of the structure is timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill to the right, and a brick and tile-hung extension to the left. The roof is steeply pitched and hipped, with end gablets. The first floor has heavy bracing, and features two casement windows and a gabled dormer with a casement window to the right. At ground level, there are three windows, and a door situated centrally within a gabled porch with braced wooden supports. A ridge stack is located centrally, and an end stack to the right.
