Description

This is a row of nineteenth-century terraced houses. Numbers 3 to 12, Lower Church Lane comprise two storeys. The exterior is red brick, set on a projecting plinth, with a plain string course at first-floor level and brick dentil eaves. The roof is covered in old tiles. Originally, some houses had one window above, while others (numbers 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12) had two. These upper windows were formerly 2-light horizontal sliding sashes, although only numbers 4, 5 and 7 now retain this feature. Numbers 4 and 5 originally had four-panelled flush doors, but these have been altered. The group value of the houses is such that they are Grade II listed. Numbers 3 to 17, along with 4A Downing Street, form a group.
