Description
Vanhurst is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and 19th centuries, and extensions added to the rear in the 20th century. The building has a timber-framed core that is covered in colourwashed stucco, which is rusticated on the ground floor. The right side features galleted and brick-dressed sandstone rubble, and the upper part is tile hung, all under plain tiled roofs.
The house is two storeys high with attics, and has a large tile-hung gable positioned to the right of the centre. There is an offset end stack to the right, with additional stacks located at the centre rear and the left end. The first floor originally jetted out on a moulded bressumer, supported by three scroll brackets on the right side. The windows are fitted with glazing bar sashes, with four windows on the first floor, including one tripartite window in the gable bay, and four windows on the ground floor, one of which is a tripartite window on the left. There is a window range that is set back to the right end, along with a further wing at right angles to the rear. A door is located on the left-hand return front in the 20th-century rear extensions.
