Description
The wrought iron screen in front of the forecourt to Vernon House dates from the late 18th century and is classified as a Grade II listed structure. It extends between two flanking wings and features spearhead rails with inverted curved top rails. The central gate consists of two panels with double pointed (arrowhead) bars and central rails that include a line of circles in between. The screen has an inverted curved head with a quadrant radiating and wreathed design, all set within a heavy square bar frame. The upper part is adorned with a series of single scrolls on each side, supporting an octagonal central lamp with cresting. This screen is part of a group of listed buildings that includes Nos 18, 37, 43, 45, and all the listed buildings on the south-east side from Nos 19 to 46.
