Description
The White House is a house dating from the late 18th century, with early 19th-century remodelling, late 19th-century additions, and a 20th-century extension to the left. It is constructed of rendered brick and has parallel range plain tiled roofs that are largely hidden by a front parapet. The building features end stacks and is two storeys high, with rusticated end quoins and a dentilled cornice. It has three bays with glazing bar sash windows set in raised, strip surrounds, which are topped by dentilled hood mouldings and foliage cill brackets on the first floor. The ground floor has later 19th-century angle bay sash windows. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door accessed by a flight of four steps, and it is topped by a traceried fanlight within a Doric half-column surround, complete with an open segmental pediment above. There are single-storey extensions to both the left and right sides of the house. The White House is included for its group value as an important feature at the end of the High Street.
