Description
Nos. 23-31 on Leas Road is a group of almshouses built in 1673 by Harman Atwood, with 19th and 20th-century extensions and restorations. The building features red and brown brick with a restored plain tiled roof, and the end stacks of the side wings are rendered. The central block, which is two stories tall, has projecting single-story side wings that create a rectangular front entrance court. The main block, designated as No. 31, has three bays with two restored sash windows on each floor, featuring a camber head on the ground floor. There is a central 20th-century planked door with an arched head. Each side wing has three camber head casement windows, and board doors with cambered heads at the outer ends. A 20th-century commemorative plaque is located on the right-hand wing, and there is a 20th-century flat roof extension at the rear of the wings.
