Description

This building is a house, originally a 15th-century hall house, that has been divided and extended. It underwent alterations in the 18th century and further extensions were added in the 19th century. The construction is timber framed with brick cladding to the ground floor on the left side, galleted rubblestone in the centre, and rubblestone with brick quoins and dressings to the ground floor on the right side. The upper floors feature exposed framing with rendered infill on the left, tile hanging in the centre and on the right. The roof is tiled with gablets over the hip-roofed cross wings, and includes stacks to the left end, left of centre, and on the right side.

The main facade has two framed bays in the centre hall, and two framed bays in the cross wing to the north (left) and south (right). Features include a square projecting wood mullioned window with diamond panes and leaded lights to the first floor on the left, a three-light leaded casement window to the centre, and smaller leaded casements on the first floor of the southern cross wing, alongside a three-light casement on the west front. Ground-floor windows include an angle bay with leaded lights under a pent roof to the left, an ogee arched casement in the centre, and a former shop window in the ground floor of the southern cross wing. Access is via a planked door under a pent-roofed porch at the left end, a 20th-century board door in a flat-roofed porch projection to the right of the centre, and double 19th-century panelled doors to the right in a single-storey extension.

Inside, the framing is visible, and the northern cross wing features an octagonal crown post and tie beam, with a further crown post in the centre of the building.
