Description

The Caterham Hill War Memorial, made of Portland stone, is situated in the churchyard of St Lawrence’s Church. It features a Calvary wheel-head cross that rises on a tapering shaft, which supports a carved figure of the crucified Christ. This is placed on a square chamfered plinth adorned with carved details, including a wreath. The entire structure rests on a shallow square base.

The inscription on the north, west, and south sides of the plinth reads: "TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE INSCRIBED ON THE TABLET WITHIN ST MARY'S CHURCH." An incised inscription on the east face of the plinth states: "DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI."
